Update: The Anderson show featuring Ms. Muhammad will be taped on Friday. Please stay posted for the air date.
Yesterday was an exciting day for DV survivors! Who says one person can’t make a difference?
Mildred D. Muhammad, author of Scared Silent and founder of After the Trauma, is the ex-wife of D.C. Sniper John Allen Muhammad.
She will be on Anderson on Friday, March 16. Her appearance on this live broadcast was confirmed yesterday afternoon. You can find out when Anderson airs in your area by clicking here. The listings aren’t totally accurate ~ Anderson is on KING 5 (the Seattle NBC affiliate) at 2:00PM, PDT and on KONG 6/16 (sister station) at 5:00 PM, PDT. Anderson is Anderson Cooper’s daily talk show rather than his nightly CNN broadcast, Anderson Cooper 360.
Before he became the D.C. Sniper, John Allen Muhammad was a soldier at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), WA. He’s one of the reasons it has been dubbed the “most troubled base” in the military. Yep. It is in Pierce County, WA.
I wondered how long it would be before the national media made the link between the serial murders in Afghanistan this week and the D.C. Sniper. NBC made it last tonight. They also hinted that the soldier had trouble at home ~ code for “domestic violence” ~ before they recounted other stories about the connection between domestic violence serial murders and PTSD at the base.
Later last night, the news broke that Lt. Col. Robert E. Underwood at JBLM had been arrested for threatening to hire a hit on his estranged wife and his boss as well as threatening to kill his girlfriend and blow up the State Capitol in Olympia, WA. A report in today’s Seattle Times indicates that Lt. Col. Shawn Reed, the commanding officer, took the threats seriously. My sense is that Lt. Col. Underwood is probably a PAS father.
Ms. Muhammad has a powerful voice, and I am certain she will inspire you as much as she has inspired me. If you haven’t yet read Scared Silent, I recommend it highly (link to outstanding video) ~ especially if you are involved in a PAS custody battle and/or are trying to safely extricate yourself from an abusive relationship with someone in the U.S. military.
