Celebrating the Life of Georgia “Giggles” Gunzer: Let’s Not Extinguish Her Flame

Georgia “Giggles” Gunzer
October 4, 1977 ~ January 22, 2011
Forever in our hearts

Georgia Gunzer made a dent in the universe.  She was an integral member of the Sound Family Medicine team.  They held a candlelight vigil to celebrate her life last night.  Their parking lot was packed with people who all believed “you light up my life” most definitely described Georgia “Giggles” Gunzer.  She was an angel long before she was called to Heaven.

Let’s not extinguish her flame.
– Cynde Marckmann

Ms. Gunzer loved Tyler Perry, the Seahawks, and her daughter.  She loved her work.  She loved to laugh.  She fulfilled completely the mission of all our lives:  to love and be loved in return.
We sang “Georgia On My Mind,” which is a Ray Charles classic.  It is a perfect way to remember Ms. Gunzer’s blessings to all who knew and loved her.

Georgia, Georgia
The whole day through
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind.

I said Georgia, Georgia
A song of you
Comes as sweet and clear as moonlight through the pines
Other arms reach out to me. . .

Other eyes smile tenderly

Still the peaceful dreams I see

The road leads back to you

I said Georgia, oh Georgia, no peace I find. . .

Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind.
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly. . .

Still in peaceful dreams I see

The road leads back to you.

Oh, Georgia,

No peace, no peace I find. . .

Just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind.
I said just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind.

There was a sea of Sound Family Medicine purple T-shirts at the candlelight vigil.  One of their physicians said that Ms. Gunzer always “had my back.”  So, they printed “In loving memory of Georgia ‘Giggles’ Gunzer” on the backs of their T-shirts.  Colleagues also made several memorial ribbons from the one featured in this post to a puffy cloud of gossamer blue ribbon ~ Ms. Gunzer’s favorite color.

Her former colleagues at Applebee’s pooled their tips in Ms. Gunzer’s honor.

The members of Ms. Gunzer’s daughter’s basketball team shed many tears.  Some were in the apartment when she was murdered.  But, these brave little girls came to celebrate Ms. Gunzer’s life with their coach.

When the vigil was over, no one wanted to extinguish the flames on their candles.  Georgia Gunzer’s light in our lives will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her as well as those of us who didn’t have the pleasure of meeting her.  Her light shines on in all our hearts.

Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment. I am so sorry for your loss.

Yes, I believe a service is planned for Saturday ~ thank you for letting me know that details aren’t readily available.

My sense is that Sound Family Medicine in Puyallup can give you the details: 253-848-5961. I will call them tomorrow and post the details.

    Sending extra hugs,
    Anne Caroline
