KCBS-TV: James Hosking Defeats Judge Lemkau

James Hosking

San Bernadino County, CA voters kicked Judge Robert Lemkau to the curb today according to KCBS-TV in Los Angeles:

In the closely watched San Bernardino County election for Superior Court Judge 11, James Hosking was declared the winner with only one percent of the votes cast. He was leading incumbent Robert Lemkau 65-35 percent.

Lemkau caused a firestorm when he ignored a woman’s request for a restraining order against her boyfriend after the woman told him her baby’s father threatened to harm the baby. Lemkau gave the man joint custody. Several days later the father killed himself and the toddler.

Bravo to all the bloggers and protestors who kept this story front and center!  This case first came to my attention via Nancy Carroll’s blog RightsforMothers.comClaudia Dombrowski was vigilant on her blogs too.

Bravo!  Bravo!  Bravo!

  1. Lemkau should be charged with manslaughter or criminal negligence and child abuse. If judicial immunity is not ended, then, the family court judges will keep on breaking the law. The State Auditors of the Joint Legislature Audit Committe should investigate Lemkau and his family court. The family courts have to be open to the public to weed out judges like Lemkau.

  2. Thanks, Earl. I couldn’t believe Lemkau had the audacity and arrogance to say that in retrospect he believes he made the right decision based on the evidence presented at the time.

The voters in CA sent a loud and clear message to the judiciary that they are fed up with this kind of misconduct and callous disregard for the welfare of mothers and children.

I’m sure his ouster has judges all over the country rumbling and worried about their own cushy perches. Nancy Carroll and her blogging followers did a tremendous job on this one. Mothers all over the country lobbied and protested and kept the bright light shining on this case.

I applaud your vigilence as well. It was nice to hear from you again. I always enjoy your comments.
