This story is so WTF that it could only happen in Pierce County, WA.
Patrick Rojas was in his 20s when he plead guilty to immoral contact with an 11-year old little girl. Now, he’s a convicted level two sex offender who can’t ~ surprise, surprise ~ get a job. Does he look in the mirror and accept responsibility for his crime?
Hell, no! Boo-hoo. It’s his victim’s mommy’s fault. Gimme a break.
He’s decided to sue Danielle Schneider, the mother of his 11-year old victim, who has been blogging to warn others:
I have gone outside of myself in hopes that something redeeming would come out my family’s nightmare. I just felt like we needed to tell our story so that the community could know who they were dealing with to protect themselves.
She lives in Pierce County, WA. She’s right. She can’t depend on the “justice” system to protect kids. And, Rojas is her pastor’s son. In my book, Mrs. Schneider is amazingly courageous and prudent. Yet, she’s facing the inordinate injustice of getting sued by a sexual predator. She told KING5:
The audacity that the person who abused my child and changed the course of our family and our life was suing us.
Yes, truth is a defense. But, in the meantime, the Schneider family has to hire an attorney and defend itself ~ again ~ from a sexual predator.
I’d say this is a monumentally frivolous lawsuit, but I’m still reeling over the Supreme Court’s 8-1 decision yesterday in Snyder v. Phelps that it is okay to bully mourners at soldiers’ funerals because the bullies’ homophobia is somehow free speech. I never in my life thought I’d find myself agreeing with Justice Samuel Alito, but I do.
Update: I finally found the blog Mrs. Schneider is writing. If you are financially in the position to help defray the Schneider family’s legal expenses, I encourage you to click on the link to help bring an end to this egregioius litigation abuse.
If the court case is monitored by court watchdog organizations and the public media, Rojas might drop the case. The best defence for Danielle is for her to expose the court proceedings in the public media and to have the proceedings come under public scrutiny. Rojas is nothing but a scumbag.
Agree with you on this, Earl. I think the local media is starting to figure out there’s something smelly going on in Pierce County. The local NBC affiliate aired it, and it was picked up by the TODAY SHOW.
My concern is that it could have a chilling effect on people breaking the silence. This is a predator’s favorite trick ~ using the courts to silence and punish those who dare hold them accountable for criminal behavior.
I agree, the Phelps decision was incomprehensible. I am a Kansas resident, and just hate, hate, hate the idea that the Phelps’ family acts as if they speak for everyone who believes in “Free Speech” ( in Kansas or anywhere!) They are crazies who are really taken by the “power” they think they have.
I really feel for the lady who is being sued. If anyone has a petition to sign via e-mail, I’ll sign it!
Thanks, Helen. I cannot fathom how the Phelps’ abuse of power and bullying could be perceived as anything but a crime. They must have one incredibly brilliant attorney to get that case morphed into the realm of free speech. It’s ironic that one of the Court’s biggest bullies saw through the smoke to see the truth.
This week I’m blown away by all the narcissists/bullies who seem to believe God reports to them. It’s just nuts.
Patrick was 22 when he victimized the 11 year old. He is 26 now. Thank you!
Thank you for this thorough, balanced post. As the media around this has exploded, it has been pushed, pulled and bent. Your post covers it really well.
Thanks!
A friend of the S family…..
Freddy,
Thank you. People who twist this story have their own agenda. My agenda is cleaning up the swamp in Pierce County, WA. I think one fact in the family’s favor is that five cops died in Pierce County, WA in less than a month because the system didn’t effectively deal with child predators.
Please let me know if/when there is a court date. I’ll be there to help you pack the courtroom. IMHO, the Schneider family attorney should go for sanctions against Rojas’ attorney for filing a frivolous lawsuit.
Sending hugs,
Anne Caroline
Thank you, Deb, for this correction. I got the age from KING5’s report.
I am saddened by this unbalanced blog. I want my legal system to be there for me no matter what my background is. Yes, Rojas assaulted a girl but that does not give the girl’s mother the right to harass not only him but his extended family members. Read her blog. She is gunning for Rojas’ extended family members. She has asked us to participate in vigilante justice.
Can the maid in NYC not be raped because she has a history of bilking the welfare system? Can Rojas not be harassed because he commited a henious a crime? There is no justification for cyber bullying. In the eyes of the law we are all equal least someday we find ourselves on the wrong side of an unbalanced system.
Mr. Kemper,
Thank you for your comment. The “justice” system is very unbalanced and often corrupt and frequently fails to protect us.
The mother in this case is simply exercising her First Amendment right to shine a bright spotlight on a system in Pierce County that is inordinately dysfunctional and perhaps corrupt. Predators and criminals may perceive this as cyberbullying, but it is simply our First Amendment doing what the Founders intended.
As for the maid in NYC, I wasn’t surprised that the predator used his considerable fortune and power to discredit his prey. I knew when this story broke that he’d squash her like a bug.
In theory, we are all equal. In reality, not so much.
