Each New Year’s Day presents us with a fresh start. As the old year comes to a close, I make a list of ten things that I wish would stay in the past. I cut them into small strips and burn them before the clock strikes midnight. Buh-bye!
It is a tradition I learned at the start of the millennium. At midnight, I pop the cork on champagne and invite ten wishes for the year into my life. I burn these and send my wishes into the Universe.
It makes so much more sense to me than making resolutions which I think most of us don’t keep because they remind us of “not good enough” childhood conditioning. Our wishes are essentially a vision of a future we would embrace and welcome.
My word for 2015 is accountability. 2014 was a year of rampant abuse of power which culminated in the protests in Ferguson and New York City. My sense is that millions of Americans relate to “I can’t breathe.”
The rampant corruption and abuse of power within local, state and federal governments is depriving most of us of our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Most of y’all probably don’t recall the movie Network which had the epic line: “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!”
I’m done being mad as hell. This year will be different. I’m done begging. I’m done fighting. I’m not going to take it anymore. Everybody has a boss, and I’m going to hold people accountable. It is time for me to practice what I preach and take the injustices and corruption to the court of pubic opinion which renders justice far more swiftly and effectively than any court of law.
Accountability is a professional term for kicking ass and taking names. 2015 will be the year when I Tell It, Sista!
I encourage you to join me.
