Oh, Elena!

You have mastered the English language so much better than folks who were born and reared here! You have a lovely, lovely accent and such a beautiful way of expressing yourself.

You have blessed me with so much laughter and so many smiles. Your sense of humor and grace and love are contagious. The US was very lucky the day y'all arrived on our shores.

Hello,
Humor is the only way to survive in everyday life especially when something going completely wrong. Of course, my experience is nothing to do with violence. But when you are in foreign country and trying to speak foreign language and learn new culture where so many things can be simply up-side-down compare to your own way of life then life in foreign country also can be perceived as some sort of psychological "violence". That is why so many people after living in USA for many years are not able to say a word and hang around Americans unless it is kids or teens.
In this case for me the sense of humor was the scientific brake-through-out!!! Honestly. When I started to understand my mistakes that sound so funny and I don't miss a chance to laugh at myself whenever I am at work, store, or other public place, laugh with the person involved into conversation.
I found that this is the best way to learn something new by putting problem into joke layout.
And, I believe that this is true for any kind of difficult situation! We are born to live, whatever happened is happened, life is not stopped there, it is moving and moving so fast, that the humor is the way to get over and trying to move along with life and not behind.
